Shamwari

And it goes on, after this deeply impressing experience of a south african township, result of centuries of apartheid, into the other world, the world of luxury colonial lifestyle in a wonderful former farm, Shamwari. Just arrived at 2 pm, we were informed about a first game drive at 4 pm, after teatime. So we did, and it started with convincing animal views. But after ca. two hours bumpy ride, Doro could no longer participate, we had to finish the ride and were picked by a car and brought to our room. Later, a nice dinner, where we got to know our co-drivers Eddie, his wife and his daughter from Mauritius, he a former CEO of three textile companies, she his wife, the daughter high school student in her twelfths year. Very nice people, good to talk to. Then we asked our guide, Dillyn, about his past and how he became a ranger. He told us his story: grown up in the bush, as farmers son, never went to school, not able to write and read, but excellent knowledged ranger knowing much about the game park animals, able to find lions, cheetahs, giraffes, kudus, elands, impalas, .......and an admirable good 4x4 driver.
