Last Day in Frenschhoek, March 14

Today we had a guided wine tour. Marvelous! Daniella picked us at at 9.30 am at Angala Hotel. She has been a wonderful guide, knowledgeable, charming, outspoken, engaged.

A real ambassador for her country and the regional wine and food. With a really vivid conversation about her, us, Southafrica, wine, history, ....... we went down to Frenschhoek to pick another couple, Ben, originally coming from Australia, relocating to England at the age of 13 for a soccer career with Cheltenham London, and Amy, a psychologist working in London for the health care Organisation.

Daniella gave some general overview about the Franschhoek area and history and then brought us to a small, amazingly beautiful vineyard: Maison. Natural beauty and easy to go modern design make a breathtaking atmosphere. And the wine tasting: marvelous! Doro discovers her new favourit wine, blanc de noir, a rose made in a very special process. Daniella, should you read this, feel free to comment and describe that process, please! Very interesting: to learn and experience the influence of food like biltong, truffles, or blue cheese (by the way: all home made by the kitchen of Maison) on the taste and character of wines.

Next stop was at the Moreson vineyard. Here we enjoyed very much the "bubbles", white sparkling wine MCC (Methode champonoise cape, or something like....), very fine bubbles, nice clear color, fruity light taste, excellente. But also white and red wines.

Daniella dropped us at Angala at 2 pm, lightly drunken and relaxed. We went down to Vrede en Lust, also a vineyard, just 2,5 km from our hotel, where we had a light lunch with sommer salad, unexpected creative composed by the chef, and - a glass of Chardonnay. The day ended with chilling, swimming, phoning home, excellente dinner on the terrace, and, finally, this blog! Great day, again, at an incredibly peaceful and beautiful destination!
