Waiheke island - the best of New Zeeland

In the morning next day we decide to go 40 minutes by ferry to Waiheke island, not really knowing what was expecting us. But our waiter at the waterfront restaurant told us to go there and have a wine tasting at man o war winery. The tour with the ferry was lovely.

When leaving the ferry we realized the opportunity to rent a car for some hours to explore the island on our own. For the first step we go to Onetangi beach, just 20 minutes to go. We arrive with bright sunshine at a fabulous little restaurant on the beach and enjoy lunch with sea views. Than we go for a one hour very nice beach walk, see the fotos below!

With this first step of our drive we had done half the length of the island. Here the map:

But the next part on the eastern side of the island was so incredible beautiful and picturesque that it took us the whole rest of the day. Here it happened the first time in my life that I was moved to tears by the beauty of landscape. After every curve of the (partly groveled) road new surprising stunning views, green hills, sheep, cattle, horses and ponies, beautiful trees, little bays, beaches, peace and quietness.
And on this little island, ten vineyards! Why not living at this lovely place? The fotos may give a light glance of what we saw.

And then a surprise: we want to stop at the side of the road once again to enjoy the beauty and take a photo. In a second the left front wheel of our little Toyota Corolla sinks into an invisible hole, the right back wheel looses road contact: we get stucked! No chance to get out without help.

Just 5 minutes later help is there. A 4x4 pick up stops, and friendly employees from the vineyard down the road pull us out. Another 5 minutes later we arrive at the  man o war vineyard for wine tasting and snack. Perfect!

Happy from wine, cheese and beauty, we leave this lovely place, getting on our way back to the ferry some complimentary breathtaking views.

Oh world, you are full of beauty!
